James T. "Whit" Whitmire, 62, went to be with our Lord and Saviour, Monday January 16, 2006 at his home. He was a loving and devoted Husband and Father who will be truly missed
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce A. and Patricia Whitmire.
Survivors include his wife, Pam of 25 wonderful years and his daughter, Chrissy, whom he adored and called her his "Punkin"; four brothers, Boyce A. Whitmire Jr. and wife Jeanette, Pat Whitmire and wife Shirley, Bill Whitmire and wife Louise and John Whitmire and wife Jimmie Lynn; one sister, Patricia "Sis" Jackson and husband Fred all of Hendersonville and numerous nieces and nephews.
He attended the University of North Carolina and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Carolina University where he received his BS in Accounting. He was employed with the Division of Highways, Division 13, where he was respected and loved by his co-workers. He was known as "Gentleman Jim". He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan. They were very near and dear to his heart. He especially enjoyed watching the Tarheels with his best friend and brother-in-law, Randy Seymour.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Washington Street, in Hendersonville on Thursday, January 19. Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 pm with Rev. Bill Carpenter conducting the service.
With Jim being a cancer survivor, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building one, Asheville, N.C. 28801.
Jackson Funeral Service and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
