Evelyn Webb Smith, formerly of Augusta, Georgia, died August 21, 2006 at Pardee Hospital, Hendersonville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Ruth Haygood Webb and George Adolphus Webb and widow of Julius Bell Smith. Born in 1914, Mrs. Smith received her education from Tubman School For Girls and Augusta College. Before starting her family, she taught first grade and taught child evangelism in Augusta's less fortunate schools and ministered in the Augusta jails spreading the good news and love of Jesus during the 1930's and 40's. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Miller of Saluda, NC whom she lived with for the past several years and a son, Julius Bell Smith and wife Patty of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughters, Julia Bell Mills Arnold and husband Harold of Charleston, SC, Charlotte Drayton Smith of Los Angeles, California; grandsons, Gregory Scott Miller and wife Jennifer of Charleston, SC and Coleman Haygood Miller of Saluda and Charleston, Julius George Smith of New York City, NY and Congdon Saieta of Los Angeles, CA; great grandsons, Harold and Peden Arnold and Smith Miller all of Charleston; son-in-law, Raymond Eugene Miller and niece Barbara Merry of Charleston. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church of Augusta and Rebecca Motte Chapter of D.A. R. A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, August 25, 2006 at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA with Rev. James Simcox officiating. Jackson Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
