M.K. Sinclair, Jr., passed away Wednesday morning at Pardee Care Center afer a long illness. He was born on October 15, 1925, in Enoree, S.C. Later his family moved to East Flat Rock, N.C. He graduated from Flat Rock High School. M.K. worked at Glen L. Martin Airplane Factory in Baltimore, Maryland until he entered the Navy. He was a gunner during World War II serving in the South Pacific on several ships including the Aqua Prince and the Pasedena. After the war he first worked in Lockhart, S.C. in construction until his marriage when he became a partner of Thompson Produce Company. He remained with this company for over 30 years until his retirement. M.K. was a quiet, hard worker. He painted the trim around a window perfectly, tended large vegetable gardens and enjoyed mowing on his riding mower. He loved music of all kinds, good food, picnics, baseball and stock car racing. He had an uncanny rapport with small children. As a result he was a favorite person to his nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, Rob Morris Chapter #299 Order of the Easter Star and he was a mason. M.K. was a member of East Flat Rock First Baptist Church. He was an employer and guardian for many years of his friend, James Ware, until James's death. Mr. Sinclair is preceded in death by his parents, Milas K. and Minnie E. Bagwell Sinclair, two brothers, Edgar Sinclair and Clarence Sinclair and two beloved nephews, Mark Sinclair and Michael Sinclair. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Juanita Thompson Sinclair; one daughter, Resi and her husband, Larry Dolbee of Hendersonville; two sisters, Martha Sinclair of East Flat Rock, NC and Betty Franks and her husband, Tom Franks of Arden, NC, two sisters-in-law, Ruth Sinclair of Hendersonville and Dorothy Sinclair of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania; one granddaughter, Glynnis Dolbee of New York, New York; one grandson, Noah Dolbee of Hendersonville, two special cousins, Jean Branch and her husband Bill Branch of Center Hill, Florida and Mary Edith Alexander of Raleigh, NC.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm Saturday September 30, 2006 at East Flat Rock First Baptist Church. A memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will be private with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Hedrick-Rhodes V.F.W. Post # 5206, Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post # 77 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 14.
