Dr. Kathleen (Kay) Revel died Friday, October 5, 2007 at Pardee Hospital. Dr. Revel was born September 15, 1927 in Pembroke N.C. and was the daughter of the late Leona Brooks and Donnie Revel of Pembroke N.C. Dr. Revel was an active member of Berea Baptist Church in her home town, attended church and local schools where she had perfect attendance. She had the dream to become a physician and began by attending Western Maryland College on a scholarship. After completing one year she applied to the Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, began her training there in 1945. After graduation she worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Walter Reed Army Hospital where she became interested in joining the U.S. Air Force. She applied, was accepted, and assigned to the first USAF Flight Nurse School. Kay served during the Korean War in the capacity of training flight nurses to stabilize the wounded for transfer and further treatment in the United States. She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1953. It was then that Kay pursued and completed a BS and BA degree. She was accepted to the University of California.-Irvine Medical School where she graduated in 1964. After completing internship and residency in internal medicine she went into private practice in Glendale, California. Her practice grew successfully due to her positive work ethic and compassion for her patients. In 1989 Kay was forced to retire due to medical disability. In 2002 she returned to her home state and settled in Hendersonville, N.C. Although retired from active practice she was always interested in her profession and continued independent study to keep abreast of new technology and procedures. Dr Revel is survived by: Eve Hoover, Business Associate, Companion and Caregiver: Judy Hatchett, devoted friend and neighbor. Brothers: Jerry and Donnie Revel: Sisters: Ailean Linton, Cora Sue Oxendine, Mary Joyce, Margaret Lockear and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Hendersonville, N.C. on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. Memorial Gifts may be made to: BRCC Educational Foundation 180 W.
