Allan Grant Purvis 67 a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend departed this life on October 11, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Chatham Ontario Canada to the late Spencer and Marion Sample Purvis. Allan was a graduate of Western Ontario Agricultural College. After proudly serving his country for six years, he was honorably discharged from the US Air Force. He worked for several years as an electrical construction and maintenance instructor at Blue Ridge Community College. He was the owner of Purvis Electric Company until his retirement. Mr. Purvis was an active member in several organizations and served in the following offices: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5206: District #16 Commander, Post Commander, Trustee, Judge Advocate, Department of NC Aide-de-Camp; American Legion Post 77: State Secretary/Treasurer, Historian and Financial Officer; Forty and Eight; Disabled American Veterans: Treasurer; Elks Club. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Gayle Logan Purvis, two daughters, Leslie Vinesett and husband, Luke Vinesett of Winston-Salem, Linda Brooks and husband, Steve Brooks of Hendersonville; six grandchildren: Justin Brooks, Logan Vinesett, Christian Brooks, Lauren Vinesett, Kelsey Brooks, Alexis Brooks; his brother Gerry Purvis and wife Sue Purvis of West Palm Beach, FL; his sister Marihelen Walker of Hendersonville and very special nieces and nephew. The funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday at Chapel of the Pines at Jackson Funeral Service with the Revs. Chip Vining and Jim Pearce officiating. Internment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Grave side Rites conducted by the Hedrick-Rhodes V.F.W. Post # 5206, Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post # 77 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 14. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to VFW Post 5206 c/o Chaplain's Fund: 900 North Main Street Hendersonville, NC 28792. A celebration of his life will follow at the VFW.
