George Law Jones, 78, of Hendersonville died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007 at Elizabeth House. He was born on September 6, 1928 in Midville, Burke County, Georgia, the son of the late Pauline Jones and the late George Law Jones, Sr. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 47 years, their four children and their spouses and seven grandchildren: Pamela Lea Chakalos, her husband, Dean Chakalos and their two daughters, Abbey and Erin of Alpharetta, GA; John Patrick Jones, his wife Michelle Jones and their son Troy of Oxford, GA; Phillip Keith Jones, his wife Peggi Peacock and their two daughters, Hallie and Zoey of Vancouver, BC, Canada ; and Virginia Lynn Combs, her husband Terry Combs, and their two sons, Jesse and Griffin of Framingham, MA. He has one surviving sister, Sybil Bally, of Broomfield, Colorado and several cousins and nephews. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving four years in the Navy aboard the destroyer, USS The Sullivans (DD-537). He spent much of his life in Atlanta, GA where he worked as Vice President of Sales for W. C. Caye & Co. for over 25 years selling and renting equipment to the commercial construction industry and where he and his wife raised their four children. Throughout his life he loved going to church. He was a Scout leader, a coin collector, and especially liked being with his family. He taught his sons to fish and hunt, took the family on many camping trips, and was a devoted husband and father. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. this Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville in the main sanctuary, with Rev. Kyles Wallace and Rev. Sybil Parks officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hedrick-Rhodes V.F.W. Post # 5206, Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post # 77 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 14. There will be a reception following the service at the church. In case of inclimate weather, the service will be moved to Saturday at 2:00 pm. Jackson Funeral Service is handling the cremation. His ashes will be buried in the Jones family plot in Midville, GA by family members. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 204 Sixth Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
