Leonard Elvin Garren, 89, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Pine Park. He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County the son of the late William Mear Garren and Mary Estelle Freeman Garren and was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Blythe Garren and a brother Harold Garren. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the American Legion Post #77. He owned Garren's Center on Asheville Hwy and owned and operated Garren's Food Center on Seventh Avenue for many years. He was a Gideon and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He is survived by two daughters, Lynda Burris of Flat Rock and Carola Keenum and husband Charles of Hendersonville; a brother, Allard Garren and wife Connie of Hendersonville; two sisters, Ruby Pryor and friend Allen Johnson of Hendersonville and Louise Burgin and husband Larry of Flat Rock; five grandchildren, Tammy Shipman and husband Ronnie, Tenise Shields and husband Thomas, Traci McCombs and husband Byron, Candi Wright and husband Dean and Charles Keenum Jr. and wife Cindy; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 Pm Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Mullinax officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Henderson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and at other times will be at the home of Carola and Charles Keenum.
