Joann Ellen Roland Garren went to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 5, 2006. She was born in Spruce Pine, NC but lived most of her life in Henderson County. She was the daughter of the late Herman "Paw" Roland and Rose Pate Roland. She was a devoted Christian who loved spending time with the Lord, and was a member of Berea Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Roland and a brother, Ben K. Roland. She was a beautician and homemaker for most of her life but foremost a loving mother, wife and daughter. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Kenneth W. Garren; two sons, Tim and his wife Lori Nix Garren and Jason and his wife Marti Hardin Garren; four grandsons whom she loved dearly and rejoiced in the fact all four have been saved and baptized, Brandon and Trace, sons of Tim and Lori, Tyler and Hunter, sons of Jason and Marti; one sister, Betty and her husband Roy "Bush" Laughter of Hendersonville; one brother, R. B. Roland and his wife, The late Betty Allen Roland and lots of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Ricky Levi and Rev. Mike Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Elizabeth House at 511 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
