Robert Lee "Bobby" Fleming, Sr. of 104 Browning Ave., Hendersonville, died Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Born in Old Fort, NC, he was the only son of George "Buck" Fleming and Alma Elizabeth Fleming. After losing his father at a young age, he and his mother moved to Hendersonville, where he attended Hendersonville High School class of 1950. There he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 54 years, Marian Redden Fleming.
In high school he excelled in all sports especially football where he broke several W.N.C. records. Even one time making a 105 yard touchdown which had never been done in W.N.C
After high school he was recruited by the legendary Frank Howard where he signed a football scholarship to Clemson University. Wanting to move closer to his wife, he later transferred to Western Carolina University. During the summer of 1953, Mr. Fleming started working for Olin Matheson Inc. in Pisgah Forest and retired after 44 years of service.
He was the loving husband of Marian Redden Fleming. He is also survived by his three children whom he adored: Robert L Fleming, Jr., Lena Julia Fleming and Jeffrey Redden Fleming all of Hendersonville. Also four beautiful grandchildren: Jon - Thomas, Alexander, Elizabeth Fleming and Stephanie Torres. Also his warm and loving family from Old Fort: Gene and Doris Farmer and many nieces and nephews.
We have lost a wonderful husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord, forever.
A private service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
