Billy Darrell "Fats" Downey, 64 passed away at his home on Sunday, May 14, 2006. He grew up in La Grange, KY and in his youth worked at Ellis Motor Co. and Radcliff Funeral Home. He resided in Hendersonville for several years and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church. Since his retirement from the auto industry, in 1993, he resided in Campbellsburg, KY and was a member of Port Royal Baptist Church, Kosair Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite, Lebanon Lodge #98 F & AM, and was a KY Colonel. Darrell served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife Jean of 40 years; a daughter Kimberly, granddaughter Brittany; son-in-law Chester (Chuck) Smith; Nieces and Nephews of Columbus, GA, and cousins. Funeral services to be at Ransdell Funeral Home in Campbellsburg 7:00 PM Thursday with visitation starting after 3:00 Thursday prior to the service. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hendersonville with Rev. Clarence Sifford officiating. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Hedrick-Rhodes V.F.W. Post # 5206, Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post # 77 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 14. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kosair Childrens Hospital and the Billy Graham Evangelical Association in Charlotte, NC. Jackson Funeral Service is in charge of local arrangements.
