James O. "Jim" Crompton Jr., 75, of Hendersonville, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Pardee Hospital after a long and courageous battle with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) and Leukemia. Jim was born May 28, 1930 in Asheville, NC to the late James 0. Crompton Sr. and Rosa Kate Goodson Crompton. Jim was a proud veteran who joined the US Navy Reserve in 1948 and the US Navy in 1951, serving as an Aviation Electricians Mate. He served aboard the USS Coral Sea and received an Honorable Discharge in 1955. He worked his way through college earning several degrees. He went to work for the General Electric Co. in 1956 and retired from GE after 34 distinguished years at the Hendersonville plant and later with GE in Charlotte,NC as a Sales Engineer and continued as a consultant for 5 more years. Jim and Frances enjoyed their retirement traveling, spending time with family, and just being together. In 1996, he accepted a position with Mechanical Plant Services (MPS) as their Electrical Engineer Manager until 2003. Jim was a member of Fruitland Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife Frances C. Crompton; a son and his wife Stephen and Carolyn Crompton of High Point; a stepdaughter and her husband Shelley and Steve Floyd of Hendersonville; five grandchildren Justin and Wesley Crompton and Breanna, Charlie, and Chandler Floyd; a brother and his wife Richard and Dorothy Crompton of Asheville; a sister and her husband Linda and Gene Sereno of Lynchburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Jim's life was such a blessing and his memory, Christian influence, kindness and courage will forever be with all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed. A cryptside service will be held 2 pm Saturday March 25, 2006 at Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Michael Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.
