Mr. Richard Austin Cartledge, -77, passed away at the Elizabeth House after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Bearse) Cartledge and was preceded in death by a brother Stacy Cartledge and a sister, Ellen Cartledge Hodges. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. After that he graduated from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art. His art background led him into illustration and exhibit work for the Boeing Co. (Vertol Division) and the Scott Paper Co. in PA. This was followed by sales positions for Wheaton Plastic Co., Trio Products and exhibit sales for Fiber Optics Co. in New Jersey. He moved to Hendersonville in 1993 where he has been a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He has enjoyed returning to his first love- fine art painting the beauty of the mountains. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jane Cartledge, a son, Jeff Cartledge and wife Beverly of Clayton, NC, two grandsons, Blake and Grant Cartledge, a daughter, Amy Curtis and husband Skip of Atlanta, GA, , six nephews, David, Stephen, John and Jim Hodges and Stacy and Michael Cartledge and a niece, Krystina Cartledge Sredenschek. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Hendersonville, NC, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 16th, with Rev. Mark Stanley and Parish Caregiver Joe Gernoski officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pardee Pavilion Adult Day Services, 114 College Drive, Flat Rock, NC 28731. Jackson Funeral Service is in charge of the cremation.
