Reverend William Luther Capell, 81, of Hendersonville, NC went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Pardee Hospital.
He was the son of the late William Mac Capell and Hettie Capell and was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosa McMinn, Eunice Stepp and Sarah Fowler. He was born in Greenville, SC and had lived in Henderson County for most of his life.
He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II.
Luther had two goals in life: 1: To live for God and be honest in all his ways. 2: To be faithful to his family and his vows. He was so proud of all his children and was very entrepreneurial. He was a former pastor at Mt. View Baptist Church for 26 years, Zion Hill Baptist Church for 8 years and Kings Grove Baptist Church for 15 years and reached his 50th year in ministry. Other than being a Pastor he was a Brick Mason and General Contractor and the latest venture of his and his wifes was the Lazy Boy Travel Park. His passions in ministry were church building and missions.
He never met a stranger and had humility and humbleness.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Frances Searcy Capell; one son, Reverend Phillip Capell and wife Pam of Hendersonville; four daughters, Dale Bailey and Husband Claxton of Hendersonville and Miriam Capell of Hendersonville, Karen Hughes and husband Joe of Waynesville and Michelle Capell of Arden; seven grandchildren, Rene Roberson, Jamie Lambert, Nicole Talbert, Kelly Alexander, Eric Baker, Cole McMurray and William Lucas Capell; eight great-grandchildren, Lexi Roberson, Cody Roberson, Ashley Roberson, Taya Lambert, Jacob Baker, Tori Lambert, Austin Alexander and Emma Jane Talbert; one sister, Mabel Reid of Hendersonville and one brother, Earl Capell of Hendersonville. Other family members include; Clarence and Anne Laughter, Jim and Marie Searcy, June Wright, J. P. Searcy Jr. and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at King's Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Harold McKinnish, Rev. Buddy Mullinax and Rev. Phillip Capell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Hedrick-Rhodes V.F.W. Post # 5206, Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post # 77 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 14.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at King's Grove Baptist Church and at other times, they will be at the home.
