W.M. "Bill" Brock, 75, of Flat Rock passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, under the care of Four Seasons Hospice after a period of declining health. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Hendersonville, a son of the late William "Strawberry" and Georgia Brock. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Brock. He was one of the owners of Brock's Drive-In and in 1964 founded Brock Insurance Agency, where he worked until 1990. He loved the insurance business and loved helping people. Today, Brock & Associates continues to thrive under the leadership of his son, Terry, and their business partner, Mac Drake. He was a graduate of Hendersonville High School and attended Appalachian State University, where he majored in music and played clarinet and saxophone with several big bands. He was also instrumental in the development of Hendersonville Youth Football. He started the Termite football program and founded the first Apple Bowl, impacting the lives of many young athletes throughout the county. He was a member of the Hendersonville First Baptist Church and a past member of the Hendersonville Country Club. His family was the love of his life, and his favorite pastimes were golf and gardening. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jo Elena Brock; two sons, Terry Brock and his wife, Laurie, of Flat Rock and Jeff Brock and his wife, Brenda, of Tryon; three grandchildren, Breanna Brock Plount of Spartanburg, S.C., Justin Brock of Tryon and Chase Brock of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Martha Hill and her husband, Gerald, of Zirconia; a brother, Buddy Brock and his wife, Lynda, of Hendersonville; a sister-in-law, Ethel Byers of Edneyville; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, who he adored. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Pardee Hospital, Third West Wing; and Four Seasons Hospice. The family is particularly grateful to Drs. Ron Moffitt and Gail Clary for their ongoing care and consideration throughout his lengthy illness. His legacy will live on through his loving family and friends, who have been left with a lifetime of colorful and unforgettable memories to cherish. They take comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering and that he is now in the hands of God. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel-in-the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service. The Rev. Wally Shamburger will officiate. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S.
