Carroll Kirkwood McMurray, 86, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Elizabeth House. He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and the son of the late James and Pearlie Kuykendall McMurray. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Dewey McMurray and a sister, Allene Fuller. He served in the US Army during World War II, and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service. He was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church and a member of the Hubert M. Smith VFW Post #77. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Hutchinson McMurray; two sons, Kirk McMurray and his wife Linda of Flat Rock, and David McMurray of Hendersonville; five grandsons, David, Roger, John, Jake and Matthew; one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Bethel Wesleyan Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Clark officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Henderson County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabeth House, 581 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
